Cam Newton is being serious about being worthy of being #1

It is nice to see that Cam Newton is not going to allow this little thing called an NFL lockout, keep him from at least pursuing being worthy of the #1 overall selection.  The Carolina Panthers and their fans should be happy to hear that Newton has enlisted the help of former Panthers Quarterback Chris Weinke.

Hopefully this is just an early indicator that Cam is willing to do what it takes to be what everyone in the Panthers organization is praying he becomes.  This is a good place to start.

Meaningless Mediation Resumed

“We’d like to make progress, but it’ll be hard to do,” Rooney said, per Albert Breer of NFL Network.  “We have to wait to see what happens June 3.”

Unfortunately at this point, the players do not appear to be interested in making any progress toward a deal with the owners.  Instead they would rather pursue more legal wrangling and fight for legal leverage.  Mediation will resume, but it appears it is not being taken seriously at all, and it appears the owners are on board with that as well.

As football fans, we typically don't care who is right or wrong, we just want it to come to an end.  We want football.  Yes it is the off season right now, but without work being done to prepare for the season, then what kind of product can we expect to see on the fields this fall?

So what does this all mean, and when can we have football?

Mike Florio had this to say on the subject, "On June 3, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit will consider oral arguments in its review of Judge Susan Nelson’s ruling that the lockout should end while the Tom Brady antitrust litigation proceeds."

So basically it looks like we are going to have to wait until June 3 when hopefully Judge Nelson will rule that the lockout is over, and the NFL will be forced to resume operation.  At that point, the antitrust litigation will begin and continue on, but at least football can potentially take place.  We would not have a new CBA in place, so some of the rules and guidelines are sketchy, but at least the would be football.

If that does happen, expect the season to be played under 2010 rules, with no salary cap.
