"Shell Shocked Marc Bulger belongs holding a clipboard"

Here is an excerpt from an article on PFT today, citing a quote from former a former Rams VP, that Marc Bulger should be a backup QB only at this point.

"There’s been talk in some quarters that a team looking for a starting quarterback could turn to Marc Bulger, who spent 2010 as a backup in Baltimore after eight years as a starter in St. Louis. But former Rams Vice President of Player Personnel Tony Softli thinks Bulger is right where he belongs holding a clipboard......"

I think it is amazing that only a handful of years ago Marc Bulger was on the brink of being mentioned as an Elite quarterback.  Now don't get me wrong, no one was putting him in the Tom Brady - Peyton Manning class at that time, but he was right on the cusp of being in that next group.  No one in St. Louis missed Kurt Warner after his departure.  He was a rising young player, at the games most critical position.  But the abuse of the 7 step drop offense took a toll, and Bulger was aptly labeled as shell shocked.

With all that being said, there was a lot of optimism out of Baltimore last season about Bulger.  There were conversations where he said he actually was enjoying playing football again, and that he wanted to play again.   It is amazing what being part of a good organization can do for some people.  Now I agree, that I would not want to make someone that needs this "revitalization" the face of my franchise, or my team leader.  However, maybe he can serve as a starter again in this league while a young player learns the ropes.

Either way, a shell shocked Marc Bulger has to be an upgrade over some of the other options teams currently have.
