T.O. appears to have financial concerns

owens_display_imageAP
As receiver Terrell Owens continues to work toward getting back to 100 percent, he continues to pursue his career as a reality TV semi-star.
But, apparently, being a reality TV semi-star doesn’t pay as well as some would believe.
In a recent episode of The T.O. Show, Owens talks about his finances until having a “that’s my quarterback” moment, with a tear running down his cheek.
Then again, there’s a break in the shot before we see T.O. with a line of moisture on his face.  So it’s possible that he was cutting onions or something.
Regardless, the point is that T.O. continues to have bills, even when he has no football income.  And he apparently hasn’t saved or invested enough over the years to live the way he wants to live.

Vikings give Adrian Peterson huge new contract

Minnesota Vikings v Philadelphia EaglesGetty Images
The Minnesota Vikings have reached agreement on a new contract with Adrian Peterson that could keep the running back in Minnesota for the rest of his career.
Peterson is signing a seven-year, $100 million deal with $36 million guaranteed, a league source tells PFT’s Mike Florio.
The contract means there’s a good chance that the 26-year-old Peterson will retire a Viking.
Peterson’s deal is the biggest to date for a running back, topping both the five-year, $43 million deal with $21 million guaranteed for DeAngelo Williams of the Panthers and the four-year, $53.5 million contract extension, with $30 million guaranteed, received by Chris Johnson of the Titans.

Solder set to start in place of Vollmer this weekend

Robert Kraft, Nate SolderAP
When the Patriots re-signed tackle Matt Light in free agency, it looked like rookie first round pick Nate Solder would have a year to learn as a reserve.
Sebastian Vollmer has quietly developed into a great right tackle and the Patriots starters looked set. As often happens in the NFL, things will look different on the field than it looked on an early depth chart.
Vollmer hasn’t practiced at all this week because of a back injury, including Saturday’s session.  That means Solder is in line to start his first NFL game at right tackle against Miami.
The Dolphins have a vastly underrated defense. Cameron Wake and company will be a great test for a Patriots offensive line that got overwhelmed in the playoffs last year and against Detroit in the preseason.
Albert Haynesworth also missed practice Saturday, according to Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe. He may just be getting a day off after practicing earlier in the week.

Pittsburgh Steelers extend Polamalu for another 4 years

Super Bowl XLVGetty Images
Troy Polamalu will be a Steeler for at least four more years.
The Steelers and Polamalu have agreed to a four-year deal that will keep him in Pittsburgh through the 2014 season.
Despite reports that a deal between Polamalu and the Steelers wouldn’t happen until after the 2011 season, in recent days both sides decided to work hard to get a deal done. Now they’ve done it, just a day before the first game of the year.
The Steelers have announced the signing and posted a picture of Polamalu signing his contract at the airport, just before leaving for tomorrow’s game in Baltimore.
The 30-year-old Polamalu has been one of the best safeties in football since the Steelers drafted him in 2003, and this contract means there’s a good chance he’ll finish his career in Pittsburgh.

Teammates select Chad Henne as captain

Carolina Panthers v Miami DolphinsGetty Images
While it remains to be seen whether Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne will become a better quarterback in 2011, his teammates have enough faith in the fourth-year quarterback to make him one of their captains.
It proves I’ve come a long way,” Henne said, via Brian Briggane of the Palm Beach Post.  “I’m here to lead this team and help [it] win.”
The other three captains are tackle Jake Long, linebacker Karlos Dansby, and safety Yeremiah Bell.
As to Henne, his former teammate, Chad Pennington, told PFT Live on Friday that he saw a different Chad Henne in the 2011 preseason, and that he is moving in the right direction.
