NFL looking into punishing Dunta Robinson

National Football Post
Brad Biggs

The officials on the field deemed Dunta Robinson’s crushing blow on Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin to be illegal Sunday night.
The folks at the NFL office could be delving into the matter a little further.
According to the Associated Press, the league will review the big pop Robinson put on Maclin in the third quarter, a similar shot to the one he leveled Philadelphia receiver DeSean Jackson with last season. Both Robinson and Jackson suffered concussions on that play. Maclin was slow to come off the field but did return to the game.
Robinson was fined $25,000 last season and could be in line for increased discipline as a repeat offender. Officials on the field said he led with his helmet. Falcons coach Mike Smith disagreed.
“That's the way we teach it,” Smith said. “My opinion didn't change.”
The NFL is out to curb some of the violence and dangerous hits. Fines are going to be replaced by suspensions for some. It’s the only way to really grab the attention of players. We’ll see if Robinson gets in trouble here.

Tony does have a cracked rib

A Monday CT scan on Tony Romo's abdomen revealed just one fractured rib, after reports Sunday night suggested Romo had two.
It's good news for Romo. On Monday, Romo said the pain he was experiencing was similar to what he went through on Sunday, so at least it's not getting any worse. He is considered likely to play next Monday night against Washington.

Chiefs confirm the injury by placing Charles on IR

Chiefs placed RB Jamaal Charles on injured reserve with a torn left ACL, ending his season.
Coach Todd Haley confirmed the news Monday. Charles is just 24 years old with under 500 career carries worth of wear on his tires, so he's probably a better bet to return at close to 100 percent from this kind of injury. His recovery will be a big story all next offseason. No timetable for Charles' surgery has been announced, and we haven't heard whether his ACL tear was clean or involved other ligaments. He remains a long-term hold in Dynasty leagues, but the Chiefs will have to acquire another running back next spring.

Jordan Shipley heading to IR with ACL tear

Jordan Shipley Jordan Shipley #11 of the Cincinnati Bengals is helped off the field after being injured against the Denver Broncos at Invesco Field at Mile High on September 18, 2011 in Denver, Colorado.

Bengals placed WR Jordan Shipley on injured reserve with a torn ACL, ending his season.
Shipley drew five targets in his first two games, catching four passes for 14 yards and splitting snaps with Andre Caldwell in the slot. Even with the slot now all to himself, Caldwell is unlikely to become a fantasy factor. Shipley, who turns 26 in a few months, will need reconstructive knee surgery. While he'll have a lot of time to recover, Shipley's role was minimal in Jay Gruden's offense, and he'll carry very little value in long-term leagues heading to 2012.
