Kevin Kolb was calling out Eagles plays during game

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb traveled with his teammates this past Sunday despite being injured and not being able to face off against his old team,  the Philadelphia Eagles.
Even though he wasn’t able to help his team by playing,  he instead them  by calling out the Eagles plays from the sideline.
“It was funny, as they were lining up for the plays, I’d go ‘Hold on, they’re gonna do this.’ And you don’t know if they changed things up or what… but the ones that I was for sure on, I was letting it ring, and I think I helped us out maybe just a little bit here and there,” Kolb said on 94 WIP with Glen Macnow.
“During the two-minute drill, you almost feel guilty,” he said.  “Mike’s sitting there giving the signals, and I’m standing there on our sidelines, screaming at our corners, ‘Hey it’s a go ball, hey he’s running a screen, hey he’s running a slant.’”
Kolb tried to down play how much it may have helped his teammates.
“How much of an effect do I really have?” he said. “I’m screaming to one guy. He may hear me, he may not. Luckily for us at that point [presumably the 2-minute drill at the end], the crowd was pretty dead and some of our guys could maybe hear it.”

Eagles cut Jarrad Page

Jarrad Page, Tandon Doss, Brian RolleAP
Jarrad Page is out in Philadelphia.
Page, a safety who had played in six games this year and started five, was released by the Eagles today.
The timing of the announcement that Page is out is curious: It comes shortly after reports surfaced that he was one of several NFL players at a Manhattan night club where a man was shot and killed in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. None of the players has been accused of any wrongdoing in the shooting, but NFL teams often don’t take kindly to players who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.
According to the Philadelphia Daily Newsthe Eagles say that’s not the reason Page was cut. Then again, if that were the reason Page was cut, it’s probably safe to say the Eagles wouldn’t admit it publicly.
With the roster spot vacated by Page, the Eagles have signed wide receiver Chad Hall from their practice squad. Putting Hall on the active roster is an indication that the Eagles are concerned about wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, who is dealing with hamstring and shoulder injuries.

NFL scouts will not attend NFLPA college all-star games

Don ClemonsAP
It’s been a bad few months for the NFLPA.  Yes, the lockout was resolved in a manner that minimized lost games and revenues.  But the final days of the process resulted in several important issues being bungled or ignored, from the agreement to submit to HGH testing to the “elite eight” who’ll be subject to discipline for off-field incidents during the lockout to the absence of a grace period before the return of substance-abuse testing, NFLPA leadership has been stumbling through a minefield of P.R. debacles.
The latest has no direct relationship to the CBA, but it could cause the greatest public embarrassment of all.
Earlier this month, the NFLPA attached its name to an all-star game that will be played on January 21 — and that will feature not only seniors but also underclassmen who have declared their intention to leave school early.

With no Luck, could Dolphins be waitin' for Peyton (Manning)?

Dave Hyde - Sun Sentinel

Here's my only problem with being out front on this: Nothing snappy rhymes with Manning.

Suck-for-Luck is one of the greatest catchphrases in sports history, because it explains everything in a staccato-burst of syllables. What do you do for Peyton Manning? "Planning for Manning?" "Scanning for Manning?"

Everyone knows we're watching the Indianapolis Colts have the greatest, awful season in NFL history, starting 0-10, getting outscored 137-27 their past four games and losing so impressively they've won Andrew Luck already.

This begs the question the Dolphins surely are interested in: Doesn't Indianapolis have to shove Manning aside like rotten cabbage?

11/16 Wednesday morning one-liners

New York Jets v Buffalo BillsGetty Images
Bills LB Andra Davis has been selected as the team’s Ed Block Courage Award winner.
Now that the Dolphins look like they won’t Suck for Luck, the question is raised in Miami: Should they be planning for Manning?
Asked about a report that he made a profane comment to his son after the Jets game, Patriots coach Bill Belichick said, “I don’t remember it that way. I don’t think we’re here to talk about that. If you want to talk about the game, great.”
Jets QB Mark Sanchez took the blame for a dumb timeout that gave the Patriots extra time late in the first half on Sunday.
Asked if he’s thinking about coaching against his brother on Thanksgiving, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said, “No. This week is Cincinnati. Next week will be whoever we play next week, whenever we play them. But this week is Cincinnati. Absolutely.”
The Bengals aren’t accustomed to getting outplayed in the red zone the way they were by the Steelers.
Does it seem like the Browns are always 3-6 after nine games? That’s their record now, and their record after nine games in 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010.
Steelers OLB LaMarr Woodley is cautiously optimistic that he’ll play on November 27 against the Chiefs, after the team’s bye week.
Texans WR Bryant Johnson explains what QB Matt Leinart needs to do: “Just try not to overdo it. The game plan is just right there for him. He just has to go out there and start the car and start driving.”
Colts owner Jim Irsay confirmed that the team won’t change ticket prices for the 2012 season. (How about refunds to the fans stuck with this season’s tickets?)
Jaguars RB Deji Karim has been mentored by Maurice Jones-Drew, and he says he wants to be better than Jones-Drew some day.
Thanks in large part to the quarterback situations of the other three teams in the AFC South, the Titans think they have a good chance of winning the division.
Says Broncos RB Lance Ball of finally finding a place where he can be a major contributor to the offense, “I’ve been a journeyman. A lot of those situations were about roster spots. But I always believed in myself. I have a love for the game. I feel I have the talent to play in the league. I just took a road less traveled to get here.”
Former Chiefs QB Tyler Thigpen says he can relate to what Tyler Palko will encounter in his first start.
Cowboys RB Felix Jones says he’s concerned with getting healthy, not with whether he’s lost his starting job to DeMarco Murray.
It may be time for the Giants to extend the contract of Tom Coughlin.
Eagles TE Brent Celek says that “It’s easy when you have a record of 3-6 to go your separate way. We need to come together and play for each other, the city, and the organization.”
The Redskins are wondering which Cowboys team will show up on Sunday.
The Lions insist that QB Matthew Stafford can play through his broken finger, but a lot of outside observers beg to differ.
In Milwaukee, the Monday night Vikings-Packers game had the highest local rating since 1997.
Finishing the season 4-12 might be optimistic for the Vikings.
Panthers coach Ron Rivera says every player on the team should know he’s being evaluated over the final seven weeks of the season.
Malcolm Jenkins deserves much of the credit for the Saints’ fourth-and-1 stop against the Falcons.
There’s more talk in Tampa that QB Josh Freeman is struggling because of a thumb injury.
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt appears to be struggling with the decision betweenKevin Kolb and John Skelton.
Colin Kaepernick says he’s learning on the job as the 49ers’ backup quarterback.
The Seahawks say they’re playing better because the offensive line is coming together.

Pacman Jones last incident will not earn him jail time

Terry McCormick - National Football Post
Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones won't face a return trip to jail in Las Vegas if he is convicted of disorderly conduct or resisting arrest stemming from a bar fight in Ohio over the summer.
Jones was order to perform 200 hours of community service in Las Vegas for his role in a strip club fight that led to a triple-shooting outside the Minxx Gentlemen's Club in 2007.
According to an Associated Press report, the district attorney's office will push for an additional 75 hours of community service if Jones is convicted in Ohio, rather than push for more jail time.

Browns' trick play highlights the need for better officiating

Last night, during the first PFT visit to the Nick & Artie show (the clip is on their website), the topics included officiating.  Many believe it needs to improve, and I suggested that the NFL needs to be willing to make revolutionary changes in order to truly improve it.
The problem is that, by the time a person has the wisdom and the ability to ignore the pressures of the assembled — and partially intoxicated — mob, he (or she) may no longer possess the physical ability to monitor in real time the actions of men who are moving more quickly all the time.  And so the NFL, given the increased importance of the outcomes of pro football games, should be willing to explore sweeping changes aimed at ensuring not that fewer calls are missed, but that nocalls are missed.
