Ndamukong Suh loses his appeal

Green Bay Packers v Detroit LionsGetty Images
Ndamukong Suh will be suspended for the Lions’ next two games after losing his appeal.
The NFL announced today that Suh’s suspension was upheld, following an appeal hearing with Pro Football Hall of Famer Art Shell, who now serves as an NFL-NFLPA on-field affairs officer, on Thursday.
Former NFL cornerback Merton Hanks, who is now a vice president inside the league office, originally handed down the two-game suspension, and under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, all appeals of such suspensions are handled by Shell or the other NFL-NFLPA on-field affairs officer, Ted Cottrell.
So Suh, who bolstered his reputation as a dirty player by stomping on Evan Dietrich-Smith on Thanksgiving, will be suspended for the Lions’ game Sunday against the Saints and next week against the Vikings. He will be reinstated to the Lions’ active roster on December 12.

McNabb goes unclaimed

Donovan McNabbAP
Yesterday the Minnesota Vikings decided they didn’t want Donovan McNabb. Today 31 other teams made the same decision.
McNabb was not claimed on waivers today.
Not long ago it would have been unthinkable that no NFL team would want McNabb, but today the news doesn’t really come as a surprise: The Eagles, Redskins and Vikings have all given up on him in the last couple of years, and there’s no team that really makes sense as a good fit for him now.
McNabb now becomes an unrestricted free agent, and it’s still possible that some team might pick him up, if there’s a quarterback injury.
But it’s also quite likely that all 32 teams will continue to think that McNabb simply doesn’t give them an upgrade at quarterback. It says a lot about how far McNabb has fallen that the Bears would rather let Caleb Hanie lead them to the playoffs, and the Texans would rather let T.J. Yates lead them to the playoffs. McNabb just isn’t viewed around the league as a good quarterback anymore.

It’s been a bad week for Igor Olshansky.
Released by the Dolphins, Olshansky has now been captured by the police.
According to CBSMiami.com, Olshansky was one of 280 persons arrested as part of a Broward County drug crackdown, known as “Operation Cold Turkey.”
The police report states that Olshansky was found in his home, rolling a marijuana cigarette.  He allegedly had in his possession a bag containing 19 grams of pot.
Olshansky was charged with possession of marijuana.

Adrian Peterson held of out practice Friday

Adrian Peterson (ankle) was held out of practice again on Friday.
The Pioneer Press' Jeremy Fowler suggests the Vikings could rule Peterson out as early as today if he hasn't made "major strides" in rehab. Peterson had expected to learn his fate by Saturday at the latest.

Ahmad Bradshaw could be back soon, if not Sunday

Coach Tom Coughlin said after Ahmad Bradshaw's (foot, questionable) Friday practice that he's "encouraged," and the Giants will see how Bradshaw feels on Saturday morning.
It sounds like the Giants have planned a Saturday morning followup workout for Bradshaw, with the intent being to see how he bounces back the day after a practice. Bradshaw wouldn't be a fantasy option in his first game back from a cracked foot, but his chances of emerging as one down the stretch are growing. Avoid the Giants' backfield against the Packers this week.

Details continue to emerge around Rolando McClain's arrest

New York Jets v Oakland RaidersGetty Images
Details continue to emerge regarding the arrest of Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain.  And it’s gradually getting uglier for the team’s first-round pick in 2010.
Via Nate Stuhlberg of CSNBayArea.com, Rishard Papscott claims that McClain and another man set Papscott up for the fight that resulted in McClain allegedly holding a gun to Papscott’s head.
“I went over there, it was basically like an ambush,” Papscott told WAFF in Alabama.  Papscott explained that he accepted an invitation to a friend’s house, and that McClain and the other man were there.  Eventually, McClain and the other man allegedly assaulted Papscott, after Papscott refused to fight.

Fred Taylor: Del Rio is not a head coach

Dan Hanzus - NFL.com
Fred Taylor is arguably the greatest Jaguar in the history of the franchise, so his opinion on the firing of longtime coach Jack Del Rio carries some weight.
Taylor played under Del Rio for six seasons until his release after the 2008 season. Clearly, there's no love lost between the men.
"At the end of the day, (Del Rio)'s not a head coach," Taylor told Yahoo! Sportsthis week. "He's a great defensive coach. But he's not a head coach."
Taylor and other Jaguars teammates became frustrated by how Del Rio carried himself on a day-to-day basis. Del Rio's predecessor, Tom Coughlin, was always stern. Del Rio, by comparison, would vary, vacillating between good cop and bad cop. This inconsistency irked players.

12/2 Friday morning one-liners

Miami Dolphins v Dallas CowboysGetty Images
The Bills will need to get more from their run defense this weekend.
Sitting CB Vontae Davis for one game seems to have worked out for the Dolphins.
Patriots DT Vince Wilfork said that the Colts’ record doesn’t lessen the rivalry game aspect of Sunday’s matchup.
Tom Moore was in town to do some work with the Jets offense.
Terrell Suggs rededicated himself to football when the Ravens hired Ted Monachino, one of his college coaches.

Okung suffers injury after the play

Tennessee Titans v Seattle SeahawksGetty Images
Seahawks left Russell Okung suffered what coach Pete Carroll termed a significant pectoral injury late in Thursday night’s game after a questionable post-whistle move by Eagles defensive end Trent Cole.
The play came with 1:57 left in the game.  I watched it again on NFL.com’s Game Rewind and Cole’s takedown should get some attention from the league.
Okung is blocking Cole legally to the whistle even though the run is away from them.  (The best view we can find online is here. It’s not ideal.)

Seattle just wanted it more than Philadelphia

Seahawks' Lynch runs across the goal line past the Eagles' Samuel for a touchdown during their NFL football game in SeattleReuters
Here’s what we learned Thursday night, wondering how much lower this Eagles season can go.
1. Vince Young kneeled down, trying to control his emotions, stunned by the gut-punch of a pick six he had just thrown. Young’s fourth quarter interception essentially ended Philly’s chances of winning Thursday night.  At least Young appeared to care about Philadelphia’s31-14 loss to Seattle.
2. Thursday’s game seemed to be about effort. Both teams entered the game at 4-7, but the game meant more to Seattle. They fought for every play.

DeSean Jackson irritated with media after the game

Philadelphia Eagles v Seattle SeahawksGetty Images
During Thursday night’s game, Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson sat by himself on the bench, looked unhappy and at one point appeared to be refusing to speak to Vince Youngwhen Young approached him on the sideline. Afterward Jackson was not pleased with the reporters who asked him what was wrong.
I’m not answering none of that type of question,” Jackson said, via NFL Network. “If you’re going to ask something about the game, do that. You’re asking questions that don’t even mean nothing. Next question.”
Jackson wouldn’t confirm or deny that he was refusing to talk to Young, although the images on the sideline made it pretty clear that he was.

McClain allegedly held victim at gunpoint

Rolando McClainAP
More details have come out regarding thearrest of Raiders linebacker Rolando McClainin Alabama Thursday.
According to the victim in the case, McClainallegedly held a gun to the victim’s head. The victim begged McClain not to shoot him, according to Seth Burkett and Bayne Hughes of the Decatur Daily.
Instead, McClain held his gun next to the victim’s head and fired the gun into the air. The victim in the case had previously been in an altercation with another man and was bleeding from the nose and mouth when he spoke to police.
DecaturDaily.com has a picture of McClain being handcuffed Thursday.  He smiles widely for the camera.  McClain is being charged with third-degree assault, menacing, reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm.  They are all misdemeanors.
McClain is recovering from an ankle injury and seems certain to miss this week’s game. He’s a captain of the defense and calls the team’s defensive plays.
