Ernie Sims, the free agent linebacker who was the ninth overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft, could be headed back home to Florida.
Sims, who grew up in Florida and was an All-American at Florida State, worked out for the Dolphins on Monday, according to Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel. The Dolphins also worked out free agent linebacker Omar Gaither.
Although he’s only 27 years old and has all the athletic tools to be a fine linebacker, Sims hasn’t drawn much interest in free agency, and that’s no surprise: He was one of Matt Millen’s many draft disappointments in Detroit, and he was nothing special in Philadelphia and Indianapolis the last two seasons. Sims has never been able to translate his talent into consistent on-field production.
