The Top Receiving Corps In The NFL This Season

2012 Falcons Receiving Corps
The NFL has morphed into a passing league over the past few seasons. While a running game is still important, a team is not going to win without at least one good receiver on the roster. If a team has more than one good receiver on the roster, it has a chance to win a championship. What teams have the best group of wide receivers?

Green Bay Packers

This should come as no surprise to anyone. Aaron Rodgers is one of the best when it comes to making receivers look good. However, the guys who catch his passes are superbly talented. Randall Cobb is one of the faster receivers in the league. James Jones and Jordy Nelson have emerged as more than just depth players in the absence of Greg Jennings. Greg Jennings is one of the best players in the game when he is healthy.

Detroit Lions

Everyone knows who Calvin Johnson is. However, most people are unaware of the other players who play receiver for Detroit. Titus Young is emerging as Matthew Stafford's other favorite target when Johnson is being taken away. Tight end Brandon Pettigrew is another strong receiving target in that offense as well. It is no surprise that the Lions were able to rack up over 5,000 yards in the air last season.

New York Giants

The Giants may have the most dynamic receiving corp in the NFL. Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz are two of the best in the game. Cruz has proven this season that he is among the best and that last year was not a fluke. Cruz has scored six touchdowns in the past four games. Nicks has proven that he was worth his billing as a former first round pick. Rookie Reuben Randle has become more involved in the passing game as well for New York.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are 2-4 this season. However, it has nothing to do with the play of the offense. Marques Colston has been nothing but a stud since he emerged in his rookie season after being drafted in the seventh round. Tight end Jimmy Graham has emerged as one of the best at his position. He could very well be the next Tony Gonzalez. Darren Sproles is also a threat to come out of the backfield to catch balls every so often.

New England Patriots

Anyone who is catching passes from Tom Brady is going to look good. This doesn't mean that the Patriots receivers don't have any skill. Brandon Lloyd has had success with multiple teams over the years. Wes Welker routinely has topped 1,000 yards receiving during his time with the Patriots. Tight ends Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski almost double as wide receivers because of their size and pass catching ability.

Atlanta Falcons

Julio Jones is one of the most electrifying young players at his position. Roddy White has been one of the best receivers in the game for the past several seasons. Tony Gonzalez is a lock for the Hall of Fame. They are a major reason why the Falcons are 6-0 this season.

These six teams possess the best wide receiver corps in the entire league. While players like Larry Fitzgerald are good enough to carry teams on their own, there needs to be at least two receivers on any given team to keep defenses honest. Defensive coordinators stay up at night thinking of ways to limit the ways that these teams can beat them through the air. However, at best, you can only hope to contain these passing attacks.
