Chiefs May Get Unlucky At the Draft

 By: Colin Cook

Every week it seems more and more likely that Kansas City is heading closer and closer for the very first pick in the 2013 NFL Draft; if they can beat out Jacksonville for the worst record, that is. And while the whole of Kansas City's fanbase is clamoring for a replacement for Matt Cassel, or Brady Quinn, the Chiefs may not have a quarterback in their first-round pick.

The top three quarterbacks in college football right now, Matt Barkley, Logan Thomas, and Geno Smith, have not yet proven to be 'first pick' kind of QBs like Andrew Luck had, and while that may certainly change, the Chiefs may be heading for another Draft in which a quarterback was not a first round draft pick. They have not selected one since 1983.

I'm sure the organization is keeping track of their future prospects; after all, this season has pretty much been a wake-up call to the whole organization to rebuild, and after Cassel's lackluster season, a fresh, new quarterback that isn't Brady Quinn would be a great start.

  1. I haven't had a chance to watch Geno Smith play yet this year, but I have watched Barkley and Thomas a little bit. While I haven't done true film study, neither have impressed me so far. This article could end up being very much the case for QB needy teams come April.
