Jets' owner says Holmes will be back next year

Santonio HolmesAP
Jets (for now) running back LaDainian Tomlinsonthinks the team needs to figure out whether quarterback Mark Sanchez and receiver Santonio Holmes can coexist.  If, in the end, one of them goes, it apparently won’t be Holmes.
Owner Woody Johnson tells Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News that Holmes will be back in 2012.

Jerome Simpson indicted on drug charges

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Simpson jumps over top Arizona Cardinals' Washington and into the end zone for the touchdown during the first half of play in their NFL football game Paul Brown Stadium in CincinnatiReuters
In September 2011, Bengals receiver Jerome Simpson was detained after a shipment of marijuana allegedly arrived at his home.  Forgotten in a season that included Simpson taking a dive and making a flip, the only flipping Simpson may soon be doing is on his supplier.
According to WLWT, Simpson has beenindicted on one count of trafficking marijuana by a grand jury in Kentucky.
He faces one to five years in prison.
Simpson’s girlfriend, Aleen Smith, allegedly signed for 2.5 pounds of “high-grade” marijuana.
A second-round pick in 2008, Simpson is due to become a free agent in March.  And that could be the last time the word “free” is used in reference to Simpson for quite some time.

Vikings hire defensive coordinator and defensive line coach

Oakland Raiders v Minnesota VikingGetty Images
As expected, the Vikings have hired Colts defensive backs coach Alan Williams to be the team’s new defensive coordinator.  The Vikings announced the move earlier this afternoon.
The Vikings also announced that former Rams defensive line coach Brendan Daly will return to the team in that capacity.  Daly was a member of the Minnesota staff from 2006 through 2008.

Divisional Playoffs - Denver Broncos v New England PatriotsGetty Images
Wednesday’s practices before the conference title games contained a little bit of drama asTom Brady sat out New England’s session and Eli Manning left Giants practice with a stomach issue.
Both men will be back on the field Thursday.
The Giants announced that Manning was in the building and will practice on Thursday. Drew Brees apparently sent him a box of NyQuil and everything is cool now.

Marty Morhinweg is the favorite to replace Caldwell

Dion Lewis, Marty MornhinwegAP
Nine years after he was pitched overboard by Matt Millen for Steve Mariucci, Marty Mornhinweg could be headed back to the top job for an NFL team.
Via our corporate cousins at CSNPhilly.com, an online oddsmaker has installed Mornhinweg as the favorite to replace Jim Caldwell.
Mornhinweg has 5/2 odds, with 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman at 4/1 and former Vikings coach Brad Childress at 5/1.

L.T. sheds light on problems with Jets

Kansas City Chiefs v New York JetsGetty Images
We’ve previously predicted that, once running back LaDainian Tomlinson severs all ties with the Jets, his interview will be more compelling than a Jim Irsay tweet.
But it appears that, instead of one epic sit-down meltdown, L.T. will bleed out the details in a series of engagements and appearances.
Over the weekend, Tomlinson touched on some of the issues during a guest spot on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown.  For the latest episode of Showtime’s Inside the NFL (via Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News), L.T. pulls no punches.

Rob Lowe regarding claim of Manning's retirement

Actor Rob Lowe turned the football-following world upside down on Wednesday with a series of tweets regarding a rumor that Colts quarterback Peyton Manning will retire today.
Ludicrous on the surface, the fact that Lowe has a friendship with Colts owner Jim Irsay gave the situation a bit more credibility.

Dez Bryant's Miami brawl could involve Lil' Wayne

Lil WayneAP
On Monday, word emerged that Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant had been detained by police following a fight at a Miami nightclub.  Because Bryant was neither arrested nor charged, the story seemed destined to fade away.
Bryant’s mentor, David Wells, has told WFAA-TV that Bryant “got involved in a verbal altercation with some members of a famous rapper’s entourage and had to be detained by police.”
And those two words — “famous rapper” — have given the story new life.
According to the Miami New Times, via NBCDFW.com, the “famous rapper” may have been Lil Wayne (pictured).
Though it’s unknown where this story will go from here, it’s safe to say that Todd Haley won’t be rejoining the Cowboys as receivers coach.
