Bill Ford Jr. wants to get Calvin Johnson a new deal

Wild Card Playoffs - Detroit Lions v New Orleans SaintsGetty Images
Lions receiver Calvin Johnson has one year left on his current contract and has said he wants to get a long-term deal worked out during the offseason. Lions vice chairman Bill Ford Jr., son of owner William Clay Ford, says the team wants to make that happen just as much as Johnson does.
Asked in a Q&A on the team’s web site how important he thinks it is to get a deal done with Johnson, Ford said he sees keeping Johnson and Matthew Stafford together for years to come as crucial to the franchise.

Chargers looking at edge rushers at Senior Bowl

Terry McCormick - National Football Post
The San Diego Chargers are looking at the pass rushers that will be available in this year's draft.
Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Chargers GM A.J. Smith showed a little bit of excitement as he got an up close look at pass rushers like Melvin Ingram of South Carolina and Courtney Upshaw of Alabama.
A lot of teams are looking for pass rush help - it is one of the staples of the football industry to find guys who can consistently get to the quarterback. And there is loads of posturing and semantics designed to throw people off the scent of who teams reallly want.
But the truth is, the Chargers have been needing a difference-making pass rusher since Shawne Merriman departed San Diego, and this draft seems to have some who can potentially make a difference.

A lot of people seem to rate Upshaw higher than Ingram, but I prefer the pass rusher from South Carolina more.  They both have a shorter and thicker body type, but I see much more explosion and flexibility with Ingram, as well as the use of more pass rushing moves.  Upshaw typically just relies on speed and power to beat the tackle on the arc.

How the teams choose to use these guys will ultimately determine who is the better player.  I feel as a pure pass rusher Ingram has the edge, but Upshaw is able to play in space better.
