Ryan Leaf in trouble again

Terry McCormick - National Football Post

Police in Montana arrested Ryan Leaf after a month-long investigation of suspicious cash transactions involving the former NFL quarterback.

The Great Falls Tribune reported that Drug Task Force in Central Montana received a tip from the post office that Leaf was receiving C.O.D. packages with packages with cash payments of between $500 to $700. The drug task force searched Leaf's home and car and found 20 Oxycodone pills for which he did not have a prescription.

Leaf was arrested on burglary and drug possession charges, both felonies. He was also charged with misdemeanor theft. To make matters worse, Leaf is still in the midst of probation on a 10-year suspended sentence from a drug charge in Texas. His latest arrest could cause that probation to be revoked.

Does Ryan Tannehill give the Vikings trade leverage?

After former Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill worked out in College Station on Thursday, Mike Mayock of NFL Network proclaimed that “Cleveland has to take [Tannehill] at No. 4.”  If the Browns don’t take him with the fourth pick, the Dolphins (whose offensive coordinator is former A&M coach Mike Sherman) would likely gobble Tannehill up at No. 8.
And if Tannehill somehow slips through the cracks to No. 12, the Seahawks apparently will be interested, given the presence of coach Pete Carroll, G.M. John Schneider, and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell at the Pro Day session.

Alex Smith quietly shows up to help look for missing girl

Divisional Playoffs - New Orleans Saints v San Francisco 49ersGetty Images
In the kind of low-profile way that acts of charity are supposed to be performed, 49ers quarterback Alex Smith assisted Saturday in the search of a missing Morgan Hill girl.
15-year-old Sierra LaMar failed to show up at school two weeks ago, and Smith was among the 581 volunteers who showed up on Saturday to help.
He wasn’t there for attention.  He was there to search,” Marc Klaas, whose daughter, Polly, was killed after being kidnapped from her California home in 1993, told the San Jose Mercury News. “It was about his heart.  It’s certainly a touching thing, and it’s a huge thing, too.  By showing up, he provided a value that went well beyond his own presence as a searcher.”
