If you were crossing your fingers in hopes that Browns defensive tackle Phil Taylor’s injury wasn’t a torn pectoral muscle, you can go ahead and stop now.
Browns coach Pat Shurmur confirmed the worst on Friday when he said that Taylor did tear his left pectoral musclewhile working out on Thursday. Shurmur said that Taylor would have surgery next week and resisted putting a firm timeline on his expected recovery.
“He’s going to miss a significant amount of time … more months than weeks,” Shurmur said, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “It’s too early to speculate how long that will be. It’s just one of those things that happened.”

Mikel Leshoure had a hard time getting arraigned on marijuana possession charges following his March arrest, but he came up with a quicker resolution of the charges.
Leshoure pleaded guilty to the charges on Friday morning and was fined $575 by a judge, according to Julie Mack of MLive.com. The charge carried a possible penalty of a $2,000 fine and/or a year in prison, but Leshoure avoided those more draconian punishments.
During the proceedings, Leshoure’s attorney told the judge that his client faced “collateral consequences” from the NFL and the judge agreed that the league’s drug testing program was more stringent than anything the court could put in place. Leshoure hasn’t faced any discipline from the league as yet for either of his two arrests on marijuana charges this offseason, but that could still conceivably happen.
Leshoure also pleaded guilty on his other marijuana possession charge, stemming from a February arrest. He paid a $485 fine in that case.

The Giants’ rookie take to the field for the first time on Friday.  And before first-round running back David Wilsondid so, he first put his name on a contract.
Per a league source, Wilson has signed a four-year contract.  The team will hold an option for a fifth year.
Since Wilson was the last player taken in round one, he arguably would have been better off going one pick later, given that the fifth-year option goes away as of the first pick in round two.
The former Virginia Tech tailback was the third running back taken in the draft.  He fills the void created by the departure of Brandon Jacobs.

Sorry, Rams fans.  But it’s true.
With the Vikings’ stadium effort officially at the one-yard line with first down and goal and a five-man defense facing a 20-man offense, a new team must slide to the top of the “most likely to land in L.A.” list.
And it’s the Rams.

The "Old Moss" has arrived in San Fran

Randy MossAP
Randy Moss has had so many iterations and incarnations that it’s never quite clear whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing for the “old Moss” to make an appearance.  For the 49ers, it looks like a good thing.
He still looks the same,” safety Donte Whitnersaid after Thursday’s pads-and-helmets-free practice, via the Associated Press.  “He never, ever since he’s been playing football has looked like he’s been running fast.  But he’s a long strider, and when you actually run against him, he’s really running really fast.  He’s running the same as he’s always run.  His body looks like a younger Randy Moss, so I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do on the football field.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Carolina Panthers have signed rookie linebacker Luke Kuechly, the No. 9 overall pick in the draft, to a four-year, $12.58 million contract.
The deal is fully guaranteed.
Considered the most instinctive linebacker in the 2012 draft class, Kuechly was a tackling machine at Boston College and is athletic enough to play any of the three positions in Carolina’s 4-3 scheme. He is tentatively expected to man the middle of Ron Rivera’s defense, although Kuechly could also end up on the weak side.
The roles will be determined in training camp.

The Arizona Cardinals announced Thursday that they have signed defensive end and 2012 franchise player Calais Campbell to a new five-year contract.
The deal should clear up some cap space. Via his one-year franchise tender, Campbell was counting $10.605 million against the Cardinals’ salary cap.
Considered a talented underachiever coming out of Miami in 2008, Campbell has developed into one of the NFL’s top 3-4 defensive ends. Still only 25 years old, Campbell has amassed 21 sacks and 180 tackles over the past three seasons. With long arms at 6-foot-8 and 300 pounds, Campbell has also swatted away 17 passes.
Campbell’s new five-year contract locks him in with the Cardinals through 2016.
