On Monday, there was a report that Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt might need a second operation on his knee after tearing his ACL and MCL last season.
Britt had the surgery on Wednesday, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. It was an arthroscopic procedure that the Titans are downplaying as not being a setback in his recovery. General Manager Ruston Webstercalled the operation commonplace and said Wednesday that he still expects Britt to be ready to go at the start of the season.

Carson Palmer endorses T.O.

At least one of Terrell Owens‘ former quarterbacks likes him.
Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer, who completed 72 passes to Owens during the 2010 season when they were teammates in Cincinnati, invited Owens along for a workout this offseason with Raiders receivers Darrius Heyward-Bey and Eddie McGee and tight end David Ausberry. Palmer said it was great for those youngsters to see how an old veteran like Owens works.

ESPN wants to ride Jon Gruden because he is a star

When we surveyed PFT Planet shortly after ESPN announced that Ron Jaworski would be moved off the Monday Night Football broadcast, a clear majority of you said that was the wrong move. But ESPN continues to believe that Jon Gruden is the commentator the fans want to hear.
ESPN president John Skipper says the decision to pull Jaworski from the booth wasn’t a reflection of his work, but was a result of ESPN going all-in on Gruden.

Wednesday morning one-liners

Vince Young speaks to the press for the first time as a Buffalo Bill, in Orchard Park, New YorkReuters
Here are 10 questions facing the Dolphins right now.
Patriots WR Donte’ Stallworth says the year he was suspended from the NFL for killing a man while driving drunkmade him appreciate football more.
The Jets have signed the other Robert Griffin.
The Ravens signed five undrafted free agents who tried out at their rookie minicamp: QB Chester Stewart and TE Matt Balasavage, both of Temple; Georgia TE Bruce Figgins; Alabama State LB Nigel Carr; and Northwestern CB Jordan Mabin.

Jeff Fisher: Janoris Jenkins will be really good, really soon

Jeff Fisher was confident when the Rams drafted Janoris Jenkins that they got a good NFL cornerback, and he’s even more confident about that now.
Fisher said on ESPN’s NFL 32 that the Rams did a tremendous amount of research into Jenkins — who was kicked off the Florida Gators football team after multiple arrests and was dropped on some teams’ draft boards because of character concerns — and that they heard universally good things about him.
“It started with the 15-minute interview at the Combine, and then the visit where we had him for the day. Believe me, no one did more research,” Fisher said.

Criner turning heads at Raiders OTAs

The Oakland Raiders had a depleted draft, and their salary cap situation prevented many big free-agent splashes. The organization could use a dose of good news, and it got some from fifth-round rookie receiver Juron Criner Tuesday at OTAs.
According to Steve Corkran of the Oakland Tribune, Criner made “at least four head-turning plays during a 20-minute span” during Tuesday’s practice. Criner snatched one ball away from double coverage, snagged a tipped pass amid heavy traffic, reached for an errant throw, and caught a bomb over his shoulder deep down the sideline.
Corkran compared Criner’s Tuesday performance to the show put on by Denarius Moore, a fifth-round pick last year, during 2011 offseason practices.
It should be noted that these are (allegedly) non-contact workouts in shorts and t-shirts. But Criner clearly made a pretty nice first impression.

Video: Saints and Brees running out of time

Over the weekend, our pal Mike Triplett of theNew Orleans Times-Picayune updated the Drew Brees contract situation, writing that the chances of Brees and the Saints working out a new deal before the launch of OTAs next week are closer to none than slim.
On Tuesday, Triplett made a return visit toPFT Live to discuss the Brees situation, which soon could become more significant to the Saints than the ongoing bounty brouhaha.
It remains unthinkable that Brees and the Saints won’t get a deal done soon.  But it’s nearly as unthinkable that the situation has gotten to this point.
To summarize (which is no substitute for checking out the interview), the OTAs start May 22 — and the Saints and Brees have until July 16 to sign a long-term deal.  Otherwise, Brees can only sign a one-year contract.
In the interim, Chase Daniel will get plenty of opportunities to develop, even if the development comes only in jerseys-and-shorts practice sessions.  (And, yeah, I made sure I mentioned Daniel so that the photo would look less forced.)
