Brett Favre would take RG3

It was the great debate of the Spring: Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III.
We knew all along that the Colts would take Luck, but a surprising amount of NFL observers grew to like RGIII over Luck. Consider Brett Favre to be in that group.
Favre spoke to NFL Network's Deion Sanders on Friday and said he's a Griffin fan.
"Griffin, he's smaller, but if I was starting a team, I'd probably of went with RG3 just because, if they can't protect you, you got to protect yourself," Favre said.
We can't help but agree with Favre on this one. We also happen to share his opinion of Cam Newton: "That dude is good."
There have been rumors that we could get this sort of analysis on a regular basis if Favre took a broadcasting job. At this stage of his life, Favre sounds happier to be on his tractor in Mississippi. (Yes, according to us media, he never gets off that tractor.)
And don't worry, Scott Hanson: There are no indications that we will have to fire up FavreWatch again anytime soon.

Saints cut Greg Romeus after knee injury

Greg RomeusAP
It’s time once again to break out the unwritten rulebook.
The Saints have released defensive end Greg Romeus under the “waived/injured” designation.  Romeus, a seventh-round pick in 2011, tore an ACL and an MCL in his left knee during offseason workouts.
Romeus slid to round seven in large part because he wasn’t able to play last season while rehabbing a right knee injury suffered during his senior season at Pitt.
And so, in order to remove him from the 90-man roster now and stash him on injured reserve, the Saints had to expose him to waivers.  And the possibility that some other team that thinks Romeus has a high degree of potential (if/when he can get and stay healthy) will claim him.
(The Patriots need pass rushers, right?)
The Saints filled the Romeus roster spot with linebacker Donavan Robinson, an undrafted free agent who spent the offseason program with the Jets.

Bears contract talks with Forte appear to progressing

Kansas City Chiefs v Chicago BearsGetty Images
There may finally be reason for optimism in Chicago that the Bears and running back Matt Forte can come to an agreement on a new contract.
Forte, the franchise player who is not satisfied with the one-year tender offer of $7.7 million, told reporters today that he believes progress has been made in his contract talks with the team.
Last year we were worlds apart, but it’s gotten better,” Forte told the Chicago Sun-Times.
Forte told Zach Zaidman of WSCR in Chicago that he took it personally when he heard the reports that the Bears don’t think his knees can hold up for much longer, but that he’s sure he’ll be with the Bears for the regular season. The question is whether he’ll be there at the start of training camp.
We don’t know the answer to that question yet, but all the reporters who spoke with Forte today indicated that things are moving in the right direction. Considering how far apart Forte and the Bears have seemed to be until now, Bears fans will have to take that as good news.

Mike Karney on Saints: 'Lots of evil in that organization'

Brad Biggs - National Football Post
Mike Karney says there is a lot of evil in the New Orleans Saints organization and it’s just starting to catch up with them.
The former fullback was targeted as a bounty during a 2009 game when he was a member of the St. Louis Rams. Karney took it as a compliment, according to Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Packers coach honest about A.J. Hawk's lack of production

Tampa Bay Buccaneers v Green Bay PackersGetty Images
Although Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk got a lot of criticism as the team’s defense struggled last year, his position coach says he had a good season — sort of.
Packers inside linebackers coach Winston Moss says that play in and play out, Hawk was fine in 2011. But he also acknowledges that teams need players to step up and make big plays, and Hawk didn’t do that often enough.

Plaxico Burress says he wants to play with the Panthers, but the team’s No. 1 receiver says there are no job openings in Carolina.
Steve Smith said on NFL Network’s Total Accessthat he doesn’t see how Burress could fit on the Panthers’ depth chart, which Smith believes already has the right mix of veterans and youngsters. Smith also said he supports coach Ron Rivera’s effort to build the team primarily through bringing in young talent, rather than aging stars.

Vince Young could be cut if he doesn't learn offense faster

Vince YoungAP
Even while saying he’s satisfied with how quarterback Vince Young has looked so far, Bills coach Chan Gailey admitted Young is having trouble picking up his offense.
Gailey has gradually added to his offense over the last two seasons, putting more in as starter Ryan Fitzpatrick has been able to adjust.
“He has done a very good job, considering the circumstances,” Gailey said of Young, via Tim Graham of the Buffalo News. “He had to come in and try to learn all of that stuff. It is very difficult.

Will Gregg Williams now come clean on bounty scandal?

Minnesota Vikings v New Orleans SaintsGetty Images
If former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams wants to talk, he apparently can.
At Monday’s appeal hearing, lawyer Peter Ginsberg claimed that the league had issued a gag order preventing Williams and other Saints employees from speaking about the situation.  According to the Associated Press, the league denies the existence of a gag order.
Ginsberg also claimed that Williams and former Saints assistant Mike Cerullo retracted their statements that the players were involved in a bounty program.  The league denies that they have retracted their comments.

Rams facing lawsuits for sexual harassment and age discrimination

As Chris Berman would say, once is an accident and twice is a trend.  Or something.
Last month, former Rams equipment manager Todd Hewitt sued the team for age discrimination.  Now, former executive assistant Lory Fabian has sued the Rams and executive V.P. of sales and marketing Bob Reif.  Fabian alleges age discrimination and sexual harassment, according to Robert Patrick of theSt. Louis Post-Dispatch.
