Lions give Schwartz multi-year extension

Jim+Schwartz+Wild+Card+Playoffs+Detroit+Lions+QiQ3fjnz9dylGetty Images
It looks like Rex Ryan was right about Jim Schwartz.
The Jets coach said that he thought he and his Lions counterpart would have their jobs for years to come and the Lions appear to agree with half that statement. Tim Twentyman of the team’s website is reporting that the team and Schwartz have agreed to terms on a multi-year contract extension. Considering the source of the infomation, it shouldn’t be long before a more official comment comes our way.

Blackmon doesn't want to follow in Pacman or T.O.'s footsteps

Terry McCormick - National Football Post
Justin Blackmon, who got himself in the crosshairs of the NFL's personal conduct policy with a DUI arrest earlier this off-season, says he doesn't want to make the types of mistakes that Terrell Owens and Pacman Jones have made.
Blackmon, the Jacksonville Jaguars first-round pick, listened to the cautionary tales Owens and Jones told at the NFL's rookie symposium and perhaps the message began to sink in, he said on Sirius XM NFL Radio viaFoxSports.com.
“It’s powerful any time you have a player share something that happened bad for him they could have avoided,” Blackmon said.
Owens has worn out welcomes in multiple NFL locations and has also had well-publicized financial issues, while Jones had more visits from the police than doughnut shop earlier in his career.

Gerry Sandusky is not Jerry Sandusky

The difference between a G and a J has never seemed quite so significant.
Ravens radio play-by-play man Gerry Sandusky is learning that right now as he deals with attacks on Twitter because he is being confused with convicted child molester Jerry Sandusky. Jerry Sandusky, a former Penn State assistant coach, was convicted on 45 counts of sexual abuse last Friday and that’s set off a steady stream of vitriol directed at Gerry Sandusky, who is not related to the other Sandusky.

Andre Carter wants to be a Patriot, but for the right price

Andre Carter, Vince WilforkAP
As inevitable as an Andre Carter reunion with the Patriots may seem, the sticking point should come as no surprise.
As always, even when they say it’s not about the money, it’s about the money.
Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports that the defensive end’s looking for a long-term deal at a salary commensurate with his Pro Bowl resume, since he expects to be ready to play the regular season opener.

Jared Cook hoping for long term deal with Titans

Terry McCormick - National Football Post

During the first three years of his time in Tennessee, Jared Cook has slowly but steadily progressed into a valuable part of the Titans offense.
Now, Cook is hoping he is valuable enough that the Titans will want to re-up him with a contract extension.
"I would like to stay here. I like Tennessee a lot, but you just kind of block it out and take care of your job. As long as you take care of your job, you’ll be all right,” Cook said. “I’m still waiting (to hear), but hopefully soon," Cook told TitanInsider.com.

Fairley granted permission to attend Rookie Symposium

Brad Biggs - National Football Post
No, Nick Fairley was not held back a grade.
But he’s attending the NFL Rookie Symposium this week even though the Detroit Lions defensive tackle is no longer a rookie. Fairley, the club’s first-round draft pick in 2011, is preparing for his second season in the NFL while also juggling a busy court schedule in Mobile, Ala., where he was arrested for marijuana possession and then for DUI and attempting to elude police this spring.

Fred Davis representing himself in bizarre lawsuit

Fred DavisAP
It’s the Summer of Law for the NFL, and the latest piece of legal news relates to a fascinating case that somehow has remained off the radar screen for more than a year.
Redskins tight end Fred Davis was sued in early 2011 by Makini Chaka, a 33-year-old self-described “celebrity broker,” who says she organizes parties for famous people.  Luke Mullins of the Washingtonian tells the story of the litigation and its various twists and turns, including the fact that Davis has been acting as his own lawyer.
And it shows.
It’s just all made up and flagellant,” Davis told the judge during an April 10 hearing.
