Brian Urlacher will be 100% for camp

The Bears spent the spring working out without linebacker Brian Urlacher as he rehabbed his knee injury, but the leader of the defense is ready to make a full return.
During an interview with ESPN 1000 radio in Chicago on Thursday, Urlacher said that he will be joining his teammates on the field for their first practice of training camp. Urlacher says that he’s ready to do everything and doesn’t anticipate being held back from doing anything to protect his knee.

Minnesota Govenor apologizes for remarks about soldiers and players

Barack ObamaAP
After further review, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton doesn’t think guys like Kellen WinslowJr. are f–king soldiers.
Two days after a clumsy radio interview in which Dayton linked the NFL’s crime wave to:  (1) idle time; and (2) a military-style mindset that makes it hard to turn the violence switch to the “off” position, Dayton has apologized for the second prong of his proposition.
I regret my mistake, and I apologize for it,” Dayton said in a statement.

Colts sign number one pick Andrew Luck

UK Redskins - Mocking the Draft

Colts beat writer Mike Chappell is reporting that the Colts have agreed to a deal with their number one overall pick, quarterback Andrew Luck from Stanford.
Colts owner, Jim Irsay has insisted that the deal has been close over the past few weeks, but it appears that it's finally come to a conclusion.
The news comes a day after the Redskins penned second overall pick Robert Griffin III to a four-year, $21million deal. Now it's down to business for both Luck and Griffin, the latter opens training camp with the Redskins next week. Everyone knew these two deals would get done before camp, but it was more important for Luck, who couldn't participate in off-season OTAs due to NCAA school rules. Now Luck has the chance to start building that chemistry with his receivers in preparation for week one.
With the top two picks of the draft signed, expect the rest to fall into place soon enough.
More on the contract details when we get them.

Jahvid Best still not cleared to play

Paul Jackiewicz - Pro Football Zone
According to Anwar Richardson of MLive.com,  the representatives of Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best won’t indicate whether he’s been cleared for contact during training camp yet.
Richardson says we may not know until the Lions report to camp next week.
The good news is that Best’s back up Mikel LeShoure is ready to go after missing his entire rookie season with a torn Achilles.

Ram's Robert Quinn arrested for DUI

Robert Quinn, Chris LongAP
Rams defensive end Robert Quinn was arrested on drunk driving charges earlier this month, according to KSDK.
The station reports Quinn was pulled over on July 10 in Florissant, a northern suburb of St. Louis. He was charged with DWI and two other charges, and posted bond and was released that night.
That’s the extent of the report at the moment, and it’s unclear why it took more than a week to come to light.
The 14th overall pick last year, Quinn had a so-so rookie year, with 23 tackles and 5.0 sacks, starting one game.

Aqib Talib could land huge payday in 2013

Around the League is taking a look at each team's salary-cap situation heading into training camp. We continue with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Adjusted Cap Number: $146.088 million

Crunching the Numbers

Around the League is taking a look at each team's salary cap situation as we approach the start of training camp:

AFC East
 Bills | Dolphins | Jets | Patriots
AFC North
 Bengals | Browns | Ravens | Steelers
AFC South
 Colts | Jaguars | Texans | Titans
AFC West
 Broncos | Chargers | Chiefs | Raiders

NFC North
 Bears | Lions | Packers | Vikings
NFC South
 Buccaneers | Falcons | Panthers | Saints
NFC West
 49ers | Cardinals | Rams | Seahawks
Cap Room Remaining: $15.74 million (will decrease by over $2 million once first-round draft pick Mark Barron signs
Best Bargain: As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' No. 1 receiver by default, Mike Williams has caught 130 passes for 1,735 yards and 14 touchdowns over his first two seasons in the NFL. A 2010 fourth-round draft pick, Williams has earned just over $1.3 million in his career thus far and is scheduled to earn $540,000 in base salary in 2012. The arrival of Vincent Jackson will move Williams to a more suitable role as a No. 2 receiver this season, a position where the 6-foot-2, 221-pounder can take advantage not going up against the other team's top cornerback.
Potential Camp Casualty: The Buccaneers have moved away from signing bonuses, and instead are signing players to higher base salaries (often guaranteed), so players with high salaries always are candidates for release. Two such players on the Buccaneers are right tackle Jeremy Trueblood and linebacker Quincy Black. In the second season of a two-year contract, Trueblood triggered a $1 million escalator to his base salary and is scheduled to make $5.25 million, all of which could be wiped off the books. Black is due $5.5 million in base salary and would leave a cap imprint of just $250,000 from a workout bonus.
The problem with releasing Trueblood or Black lies in whom would replace them? Trueblood played in over 92 percent of the Buccaneers' snaps last season and is solid in pass protection. The Buccaneers do not have much (or any) depth at the tackle position. Black was largely a two-down player in 2011, but with Geno Hayes moving on in free agency, Black is the team's most experienced linebacker. With plenty of cap space, the Buccaneers unlikely are to be motivated by cap relief when shaping their 53-man roster this summer.
Contract Issue Looming In 2013: Cornerback Aqib Talib is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent next offseason. Off-field issues have had his future in Tampa in doubt, but he won't face charges in Texas. Talib has a clean slate with first-year head coach Greg Schiano. When not getting involved in off-field issues, or injured, Talib is an excellent cover cornerback with the ability to be a perennial Pro Bowl player. A healthy, law-abiding season could get the Buccaneers to pony up the dough or place the franchise tag (projected value of $10.784 million) on him next offseason.
Defensive end Michael Bennett received a "First Round" restricted free-agent tender from the Buccaneers and will earn $2.742 million in base salary in 2012. Da'Quan Bowers' torn Achilles will give Bennett another opportunity to cement his status as a starter, either for the Bucs or elsewhere, and he should do quite well for himself on the free agent market if he's allowed to test it.

Fred Taylor believes MJD could hold out for a while

Maurice+Jones+Drew+Tampa+Bay+Buccaneers+v+JgxX_suIQWLlGetty Images
Plenty of retired players like to weigh in on topics facing their old teams even though they don’t have much insight into the situation.
So when Big Cat Country passed along wordthat Fred Taylor talked about the possibility ofMaurice Jones-Drew holding out from Jaguars camp, it didn’t seem like there was much reason to take it as more than just his opinion. Taylor’s been working out with his replacement at running back with the Jaguars recently, though, and that adds a little more weight to Taylor’s belief that Jones-Drew will be away from the Jags when camp opens and, possibly, well beyond.

Tim Tebow is the Jets' new Red Zone quarterback?

Tim+Tebow+New+York+Jets+OTA+2LpMYcg4Lt_lGetty Images
We’ve heard a lot about Tim Tebow this offseason, but we still don’t know exactly how the Jets will use him on offense this season.
The Jets always say that he’s a backup quarterback, although that’s mitigated by talk about about playing him 20 snaps a game and Wildcat/read-option formations that could grow into something more. The latest suggestion is that the Jets are going to use Tebow as their quarterback in the red zone.

Bengals cheerleader accused of sex crimes

sarahjones
Sarah Jones, the former high school teacher and Bengals cheerleader who has been charged with sexual abuse and unlawful use of electronic devices over allegations that she had an affair with a boy at her school, says the boy’s gossiping ex-girlfriend is to blame.
“They were out of control . . . it’s actually the alleged victim’s ex-girlfriend,” Jones said onToday.
Prosecutors say Jones had sex with the boy at least four times in her apartment and sent explicit text messages to him. She faces up to five years in prison, and her mother, a former school principal in the same district who is accused of trying to cover up the affair, also faces five years in prison on a charge of evidence tampering.
Jones refused to answer directly when asked if she had sex with the boy.
“That is not something we are allowed to discuss at this time,” she said.
Bengals.com still lists a woman named Sarah J. who is a high school English teacher as a member of the Ben-Gals, although she is no longer either a cheerleader for the team or a high school teacher after these charges were filed.

Jets will not bring back Jim Leonhard

Jim Leonhard PicGetty Images
Free agent safety Jim Leonhard recently declared himself recovered from last year’s torn right patellar tendon, and is ready to work out for NFL teams. But his days as a New York Jet are over.
League sources told ESPN New York’s Rich Cimini that Leonhard “won’t be back with the team,” which is moving forward with Yeremiah BellLaRon Landry, and Eric Smith at safety. Leonhard spent the past three seasons with New York, following Rex Ryan over from Baltimore.
Just from a dot-connecting standpoint, the Indianapolis Colts make sense as a potential suitor for Leonhard. New head coach Chuck Pagano was Leonhard’s position coach in 2008.
Indianapolis’ projected starting safeties are Antoine Bethea and Tom Zbikowski.
Leonhard can also return punts.

Conflicting reports about Flacco deal

Terry McCormick - National Football Post
When will the Baltimore Ravens and Joe Flacco get together on a new contract for the quarterback?
NFL.com, citing a source, said there is a "75 percent chance" Flacco could have a new deal in place by the opening of training camp.
However, Aaron Wilson, who covers the team regularly for the Carroll County Times, isn't so sure about that, calling it "unlikely" that an extension could be brokered so quickly with camps opening in approximately two weeks.

Mike Vick thinks the Eagles could become a dynasty

Michael VickAP
A year after backup quarterback Vince Young applied the “dream team” label to the Eagles during his introductory press conference, starting quarterback Mike Vick has opened a new Pandora’s Box during the media tour for his ill-advised new book.
Vick says that the Eagles could become a dynasty.
“When I look at our football team and what we have on paper, I think about when I was growing up and the great San Francisco 49er teams, the great Green Bay Packer teams, and the great Dallas Cowboy teams, how they just positioned themselves to compete and be one of the best teams out there,” Vick told CSNPhilly.com.
“I think we have a chance to be that.  I think we have a chance to develop a dynasty.”
