Last year, the Patriots had to try to win the Super Bowl with an injured Rob Gronkowski. This year, they’ll have to try to win a championship without him at all.
Gronkowski re-injured his forearm during the first quarter of Sunday’s game. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Gronkowski needs surgery. He’ll miss the rest of the postseason.
The original injury occurred on November 18. He returned in Week 17, catching two passes for 42 yards against the Dolphins.
Gronkowski injured the arm again while falling to the ground, trying to make a catch.
Last year, Gronkowski suffered a sprained ankle in the AFC title game. He played two weeks later with the injury, but he was impaired by the ankle. He had surgery after the Super Bowl.
